SPI acquires 4K content from Korea’s UMAX and AVA

Pay-TV operator and content aggregator SPI International is boosting its catalogue with six features shot in native 4K from South Korean content suppliers AVA and UMAX.
funboxAs part of the deal, SPI International, which broadcasts the Funbox 4K/UHD general entertainment channel, has acquired a 60-minute documentary from UMAX and CJ Hello Vision called The Korean Cultural Expedition, as well as a travel documentary titled 7 Emotions, 7 Wonders: Mexico, Italy, Jordan, narrated by Lord of the Rings actor Sean Astin.
“As we want viewers of our Funbox 4K/UHD channel to experience the ultimate immersive 4K UHD content, we are glad to include in our 4K library new titles from our Korean partners,” said Berk Uziyel, executive director, SPI International.
“It is our second acquisition deal with Korean suppliers and we are very happy with the highest quality of native 4K programming delivered by them; image quality remains one of the most important criteria for us when it comes to making the final selection of content for the Funbox 4K/UHD channel.”
AVA is to supply a number of travel documentaries to SPI International, looking at the stunning destinations of Santorini, Barcelona and Cappadocia.
